Purpose: The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

The UMW Chapter at First Methodist is a very active group of 300 women who get together to enjoy fellowship, mission projects, studies and lasting friendships. It is a diverse group made up of women in their early 20s to over 100, including professional women, homemakers and retirees. Our UMW is divided into sub-groups, called Circles, which meet at varying times and places. Out of the 11 Circles, most meet on Tuesday mornings, September through May. Some of the groups meet more frequently and some meet in the evening. The Circles offer a wide variety of programs including Bible studies, community service, cultural discussions, book reviews and social activities. The UMW meets as an entire group twice a month for General Meeting (first Tuesday) and Service Day (third Tuesday).

Our UMW provides financial and service support to the following organizations: United Community Centers, Presbyterian Night Shelter, Church Women United, Day Resource Center for the Homeless, YWCA Day Care, FUMC Camperships and Meals on Wheels. The mission projects supported by Service Day are hand-made items for John Peter Smith, Cook Children’s and Harris Methodist hospitals, Infant Formula at FUMC, New Lives School, American Cancer Society, FUMC Mission and area nursing homes. Through pledges of members, UMW also supports worldwide mission programs.

General Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month (September to May) more information will be added soon.

Reservations are required for lunch ($9.00) at the General Meeting. Reservation may be made by calling the church office, 817/336-7277.
